The Diz Chair by Sergio Rodrigues is a beautiful piece of furniture and is without a doubt one of our favourites here.
The clean lines and sculptural shape recall the mid-century modern design aesthetic. Although Rodrigues has been designing since the 50s, this piece was first produced in 2002. It’s no surprise to us that it is quickly becoming a modern classic.
Jose Adriano Lopes is a young (born 1976) award-winning Brazilian artist and photographer based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. His process begins in the streets, where he takes photos of everyday life in Sao Paulo. These photos are the inspiration for his collages. His chosen medium is newspaper. Both the theme of his work and the newspaper share the same emphasis of everyday life. He has been exhibiting regularly since 1996 both in Brazil and Italy (Milan, Turin, Rome, Brescia, Reggio Emilia…).
“The newspaper with its layers of pages, stories and variety of printed colours form the basis for my work. I used to say that the newspaper itself is my work, the process of layering the paper makes reliefs, shapes and tonalities with pictorial effects that create surreal atmosphere. The figures suddenly emerge from the contrast created by the many layers of paper. This is my way to tell the stories of everyday life and its subtleties. I love the urban atmosphere and the street is the perfect setting; the visual pollution, the dust on the buildings, the sky with its faded colours, the advertisements, the battered walls of the building’s gaps and holes revealing different layers of faded colours, all of these represent the many different layers of everyday life.”
